BeCandle (HKMU-FYP)

Established in 2012, BeCandle is a fragrance product factory and lab located in the heart of Sai Kung. Based on the outskirts of Hong Kong, we produce in small batches with high-quality craftsmanship.

We strive to create each piece with care and quality, using a blend of vegetal and soy wax, fine fragrances and essential oils from Europe housed in hand-blown glass vessels. We have a proud history of creativity and collaboration with international and local brands as well as one-off exclusive piece.

BIG IDEA

The word "home" has different meanings: the place of birth, place of resi- dence, place of life, the place with a sense of belonging, etc. All of them can be interpretations of "home". For Hong Kong people, Hong Kong is their home. Hong Kong is a place with a unique cultural feature due to its past history. Eastern traditional customs and Western historical buildings can be found in this small place. Therefore, Hong Kong people’s defi- nition of “home” is even more colorful.

 

The 5 scents of candles in OUR LAND project are Xavier's exploration of "home". The word "home" is not specific and vague, so everyone's under- standing of this word is different. When asked what “home“ means, the answer can be ever-changing. "Home" can refer to our residence and can be extended to our own family or friends. Even talking about the word "home" in recent years reminds us of Hong Kong. Even though every- one's answer is ever-changing and different, the word "home" has one thing in common for the public, which is a familiar, reassuring, and com- fortable feeling.

 

OUR LAND embodies the appearance of "home" in Xavier's mind, and our campaign-HOME SCENT provides a way for customers to explore their "home" by the roadshow and workshop of HOME SCENT and make this intangible concept concrete through smell. This feeling is no longer limited. Even if you are in different scenes, such as the office or abroad, as long as you light up OUR LAND or your homemade candles, you can regain the feeling of "home fragrance".

Campaign Logo Design

The logo design of Home Scent combines the elements of candles and houses ot represent hte scent of home. For most people, the scent of home is the most comfortable and relaxing. Additionaly, BeCandle is located in Sai Kung, a place near the sea, whcih is why deep blue colour of the ocean has been chosen as the brands main colour This colour conveys a calm and peaceful feling, futher highlighting the brands design concept. The aim is to efectively convey the brands philosophy and values.

OurLand - Key Graphic Design

OUR LAND is an exploration of the place we have called home. It is the connection between the place we live, and how we be responsible of it. The science-craft based exhibition is a documentary, as well as an exemplification of life work by BeCandle, Designer Niko Leung, and Potter Candy Law.
